Homeslice Shanghai has just launched the summer 2019 edition of new pizzas, now available at both Found 158 and Zhongshan Park locations, and on delivery (Ele.me, Meituan, and Sherpa’s).
If you live further west of the city center, Homeslice is opening another store near Shanghai Indoor Stadium metro station. That’ll come this August.
Summer 2019 Pizzas at Homeslice
I’m not going into detail about these pizzas. There really isn’t a need to. Just revel in all this pizza porn and stop in / order them.
Provençal Pizza, by Michael Wendling (Cuivre) ¥30/150/230 (slice, 16” pie, 20”)
Michael Wendling has been running French restaurant Cuivre since 2011. The Provençal Pizza is a tomato base, topped with peppers, onion, salted lemon, and spicy sausage, along with olives, goats’ cheese, and pesto. Very Mediterranean. As usual, 10% of Homeslice’s guest chef pizza sales will go to Stepping Stones.
Vodka Sauce Pizza (¥130/190)
“Italian-American cooking is very much its own thing; a product of the 19th and 20th century immigrants from Italy to the US, it comes in generous portions and packed with flavor,” reads the apt press release.
What does vodka do in vodka sauce? Apparently small traces of alcohol can intensify aromas. In this case, making the tomato sauce more…tomato-y? I’m not about to do a deep-dive into the subject, but if I were to compare, I’d say vodka sauce is smoother than your usual sauce base. The Vodka Sauce Pizza at Homeslice is a touch spicy, topped with Italian mozzarella, and plenty of basil.
Catalan Pizza (¥170/270)
Chorizo, Morcilla (blood sausage), and Salsichon Cular (cured salami-type sausage) on a white onion base. A couple strips of charred leek and Romesco sauce. My favorite of the four.
Four Cheese Pizza (¥150/230)
Gorgonzola, Provolone Piccante, house made Ricotta, and three-cheese and white base. A few dollops of caramelized onion for a hint of sweetness and a black-and-white sesame dusted crust.
