CÉ LA VI Shanghai is closing, but is it for good?
February 12
The reasons as to why and when CÉ LA VI Shanghai is closing remains unclear, but according to a source, the bar/club/restaurant had pulled out of their leasing agreement with landlord House of Roosevelt. CÉ LA VI Shanghai had only opened late October 2019.
(CÉ LA VI is currently closed due to COVID19.)
Update: An official press release went out on February 14.
“Iconic Locations Limited has announced that it will be suspending operations of CÉ LA VI Shanghai located at The House of Roosevelt, 27 Zhongshan Dong Yi Road (Bund 27), Huangpu District, Shanghai, China. The venue will remain closed until further notice in light of the current trading environment in the city.
The company remains positive about Shanghai which remains one of the most important international cities in the Asia Pacific and is well suited to the CÉ LA VI brand and concept.”
But it was inconclusive—is CE LA VI closed until further notice or closed for good?
Update February 17
When asked to confirm if:
1. CE LA VI had fired all staff,
2. Whether the closing was permanent or temporary (since the press release was inconclusive),
3. If they had pulled out of the leasing agreement with landlord House of Roosevelt,
the following statement was provided—
“Our future strategy for Shanghai is under review, as the outcome of the review is not know at this stage we have offered voluntary separation terms to all our staff. These terms have been accepted by mutual agreement. We have also been able to re-assign some team members to other CÉ LA VI locations. We will issue future updates in due course. The venue will remain closed until further notice in light of the current trading environment in the city. We are monitoring the situation closely and will reassess our decision pending further developments.”
